49 miles Riverford

Why Riverford?

They believe that amazing veg has the power to change lives and the world around us which we whole heartedly agree with. Our local growers produce all year around from the Bride Valley and supply Modbury Farm shop with as much as they can grow. However due to high demand or greater choice we top up with Organic vegetables from the amazing growers at Riverford.

Never flown and home grown in their fields here in the UK or across the channel on their farm in France.

Amazing veg, positive impact

Brilliant veg has the power to shape a better world - through what we grow, how we grow it, how it inspires you in the kitchen, and the joy it brings to your plate. With the support of customers, in the past year we've saved 21 tonnes of plastic, donated over 1 million portions of veg to charity, planted over 1,500 native trees, and raised £164,744 for our charity partner Ripple Effect. And there's still so much more to come.

The farmers who deliver

Riverford began in 1986, when Guy Singh-Watson started growing organic veg in a corner of his parents' Devon farm and delivering it to local friends. They have come a long way from one man and a borrowed tractor - but farming keeps their feet firmly on the ground.

They still grow mountains of veg on the original Devon farm, three regional sister farms, and a farm in France (where a bounty of colourful spring crops are ready just a few vital weeks ahead of the UK season). You can visit the organic farms below, anytime.

Why Organic?
Why Organic?

What is organic food?

Organic food is the product of organic farming; put simply, a system of managing land and livestock that works with nature rather than against it.

Organic always means…

No artificial pesticides or fertilisers

Exceptional standards of animal welfare (better than free range!)

No genetically modified (GM) ingredients or animal feeds

No routine use of antibiotics

Free from artificial preservatives and colours
